Blue Peter dinghy
Restoring my first boat

<< Back to stage 4

Interior finishing of: All of the hull repairs are just about finished and now it is time to start painting. I am using International Toplac as that is the type used by Swallowboats for my new BayCruiser 20, and I want them to match. Very chic. Toplac can be sprayed apparently, but I am going to use a roller.

The interior, with major repairs complete, but new alterations yet to be made. This view gives and idea of the state of the boat, but it was actually far filthier. This is after several pressure hosings and scrubbing.

This is the finished interior, just about to be turned upside down again to start on the hull exterior. The colour is "ivory", a creamy off white. I painted one white undercoat, one half and half undercoat and top coat and then two final topcoats. Looks good and the roller finish looks fine. Far better than I have ever achieved with brushes. All of the fitting are bedded in Sikaflex.

The final additions are two horn cleats on the quarters. Useful for mooring but also to secure the ends of the oars when sailing, as shown here. Next stage is to turn her over and start on the outside of the hull. It is November 23, but with all of the travelling I am going to be doing over the next two months, it may not get done until next January/February. We shall see
